Chemical Genetics and Antimicrobial Drug
Discovery
I have recently accepted a position as the Jacobs Visiting Professor at the Keck Graduate Institute, in Claremont, California. KGI is a new graduate institute, part of the Claremont College system, which is dedicated to education & research in the applied life sciences. This position will allow me to write, develop a research program, and train graduate students who are preparing for a variety of positions in the biotech industry, including business, regulatory, computational biology, and engineering. Because of KGI's focus on business and commercial applications of research, the position also provides the opportunity to explore starting up a company.
The research program that I'm developing has the general themes of chemical genetics and antimicrobial drug discovery - the type of research that I hope provides both interesting fundamental research and a rapid path to antimicrobial drug discovery.
My expertise is microbial genetics/genomics and antimicrobial drug discovery. I most recently served as Senior Vice President, Preclinical Studies at Affinium Pharmaceuticals (Toronto). Previously, I held positions in biotechnology companies as Senior Director, Functional Genomics & Bioinformatics at Genencor International (NASDAQ: GCOR), a global biotechnology company with products for the health care, agriculture and industrial chemicals markets, and as Vice President, Research Alliances and Director, and Discovery Biology with Microcide Pharmaceuticals.
