Differentiation of Neural Crest Cells David Anderson's laboratory investigates how different types of neurons and glia are generated from the neural crest, a uniquely vertebrate structure. The group has isolated neural crest stem cells and progenitor cells, and has immortalized them to produce continuous cell lines. Anderson's group has also isolated vertebrate homologues of Drosophila genes that control neuronal determination, and is examining their function by gene knockout experiments in mice.
