Research Interests

Molecular Basis for Synapse Formation in the CNS

We are interested in the basic cell-biological mechanisms that lead to the formation of the pre- and post- synaptic membrane specializations in the central nervous system. Furthermore, we are studying signaling events that regulate synaptogenesis and thereby generate specific neuronal circuits during development.

We are using the mouse cerebellum as a model system. Our experimental approach is a combination of cell-based in vitro assays, functional imaging, biochemistry, and gene expression profiling to dissect the molecular machinery and to isolate novel proteins with a function in synapse formation.
