Research Interests
My research direction has focused on ribonucleoprotein enzymes, telomeres and telomerase. This started with characterizing the mitochondrial telomeres of the ciliated protozoa Tetrahymena, evolved to structure/function studies of human telomerase, and is now focused on discovering and developing telomerase inhibitors as cancer therapeutics and activators of telomerase via gene therapy or pharmaceuticals to alleviate certain age-related disorders.
